Strategic Goals 2010-2012:
- Curriculum Implementation – Plan for and implement the new NZ Curriculum through Te Aratika o te kura o Owhiro (Owhiro Bay School Curriculum).
- School Facilities and Environment – Plan for the future development of the school landscape, buildings and facilities.
- Governance – Maintain effective and sustainable Governance.
- Kindergarten Development – Develop an effective ‘one learning community’ relationship with the new kindergarten.
Goal 1: Curriculum Development – Plan for and implement the new NZ Curriculum through Te Aratika o te kura o Owhiro (Owhiro Bay School Curriculum)
Sub Goals 2010:
- Begin implementation of the NZ Curriculum through Te Aratika o te kura o Owhiro.
- To continue to develop teacher understanding, capability and confidence in implementing the new curriculum particularly through the key competencies, learning areas and within the guidelines of the new National Standards for ‘Reading and Writing’ and ‘Mathematics’.
- To review, plan for and provide relevant resources to support student learning, including the special learning needs of identified Maori, Pasifika, Special Needs and Gifted and Talented students.
- Review and refine reporting of student progress and achievement to parents.
- To continue to explore environmental themes, planning for authentic opportunities to engage students in themes which are integrated across the key competencies and learning areas, and which encourage success for all students.
- To plan and implement programmes which provide a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy.
- To promote tikanga Maori and te reo Maori opportunities and experiences for all students while taking all reasonable steps to provide instruction in tikanga Maori and te reo Maori for students whose parents request this.
- To explore and clarify the role of Information and Communication Technology in providing effective learning programmes for students at Owhiro Bay School.
Goal 2: School Facilities and Environment – Plan for the future development of the school landscape, buildings and facilities
Sub-Goals 2010
- To encourage and provide opportunities for parents/caregivers to share ideas and raise issues for future development of the school.
- Consult with the community and develop a landscaping plan to be implemented in 2010.
- To develop a master plan to guide the future development of school facilities.
- Make effective use of new laptop computer cows and mounted projectors as learning tools and seek funding for two more mobile units
Goal 3: Governance – maintain effective and sustainable Governance
Sub-Goals 2010
- Encourage interest in the Board elections.
- Set clear and consistent direction through Strategic Plan, Annual Plan and policies that assist management decision making.
- Prioritise monitoring of educational and financial performance of the school over other matters.
Goal 4:Kindergarten Development - Develop an effective ‘one learning community’ relationship with the new kindergarten
Sub-Goals 2010
- To continue to work with the WRFKA to review and implement the vision and processes for working together.
- To implement policies and practices that reflect the ‘one learning community’ including New Zealand’s cultural diversity and the unique position of Maori within this.
