Parentlink is the connection between families, children and Ōwhiro Bay School. Made up of whānau and friends of the school, Parentlink organises fundraising and social events, and provides support and pastoral care to families when needed. Every family at Ōwhiro Bay School is automatically a member and can choose their own level of involvement.
Parentlink raises significant funds each year to help the school enhance its programmes and resources. We also work alongside Ōwhiro Bay Kindergarten, to support our ONE Learning Community. Events include the Country Fair, raffles, bake sales and other community activities. Recent projects have raised money for new shade cloths, IT equipment, playground upgrades, sports t-shirts, decodable readers and end-of-year prize-giving books. Our funds are also used to enable classes to go on enriching trips and experiences outside of school.
As a registered charity, Parentlink has a committee (Chair, Treasurer and Secretary) and meets monthly with a staff representative. Meeting dates and updates are shared through the school newsletter and Parentlink emails. Everyone is welcome, and we love new faces to help carry the load!
Parentlink also provides awhi through meals, baking, vouchers and help with clothing or school costs. Families can request support or nominate others using the Pastoral Care Form.
Manaaki Rōpu provides support to the principal by offering time, baking and kai for school run whānau events and meetings. If your strengths are in the kitchen, or you have time to assist with events, this might be where you could help out.
Our Pātaka Kai, located beside the staffroom, is open to all families and stocked with basic groceries, frozen meals and other essentials, thanks to support from the Vulnerable Support Trust (Do Some Good). All whānau are welcome to take what they need or to contribute surplus food or garden produce when you can.
Parentlink also helps bring our community together through events such as school discos, joint kindergarten activities and school improvement projects.
Families automatically receive Parentlink emails; if you wish to opt out, please contact parentlink@owhiro.school.nz or the school office.
