Ōwhiro Bay Kindergarten

E TIPU E REA - IN OUR CHILDREN LIES OUR FUTURE

We are located in beautiful Ōwhiro Bay on the south coast of Wellington, and offer a 'full day' (8am - 5pm) service providing education and care for up to 40 infants, toddlers and young children each day. We opened our doors to the tamariki and whānau of South Wellington on 1 December 2009.

About Us and Our Programme:

Our kindergarten is on site at Ōwhiro Bay School to create One Learning Community where the school and kindergarten share knowledge in a partnership that is beneficial to children and families.

Our purpose-built building allows us to cater for children aged 6 months to 5 years of age. Low numbers in our Tipu (under 2) area allow teachers to provide a safe and nurturing environment. Infants are encouraged and supported to develop at their own pace allowing time, freedom of movement and space to ensure this is possible.

In the Puawai (over 2) area teachers ensure that children are stimulated and their learning is supported and extended. Children are encouraged to become active explorers of their environment, to learn through participation both individually and alongside their peers. Our child-driven programme is strongly supported by our environment. Our close links to the school, the community gardens, and the beach are celebrated.

Through connecting children with nature, we help to deepen their learning experience and create a lasting sense of place. This respect for nature is part of our bi-cultural programme.
